We need to break down our silos to survive in the world of software-defined vehicles

How do the two protagonists Harry Hardware and Siggi Software view the topic of operation?

They are both passionate engineers - but have a different mindset, even when it comes to operations.

Harry has developed the perfect machine, which runs without any intervention during operation at the customer's premises.

Siggi has developed a system that is OK in the first step and works. However, he already has some ideas about what he can do better and how the system could be optimised. And he can assume that there will always be a next version that will be rolled out to incorporate the improvements.

The tricky thing is: we need both!
Harry has to develop the best possible solution down to the last detail to enable production.
Siggi also has to work towards this milestone, but needs to continue to maintain the code and deliver further updates and other product lines in parallel. Instead, he needs to invest in an overall architecture and also explore new methods to make the growing complexity manageable.

A first step in bringing the two poles together is to use a common language. And we call this Systems Engineering (SE).
SE has the right mindset, but we need a scalable approach.

We need a common language. You can find out how we can achieve this in the following blog posts.
What experiences and examples do you have of SW and HW people not getting along?
Do you agree that we first need to agree on a common language in order to be able to work together effectively and efficiently? Feel free to leave a comment or send me a message. Stay tuned for more to come soon!
And don't forget: keep on rocking in a free world!
